...whose witty and sometimes macabre stories satirized Edwardian society and culture. Saki's world contrasts the effete conventions and hypocrisies of Edwardian England with the ruthless but straightforward life-and-death struggles of nature. Nature generally wins in the end.Source: Wikipedia
We have been looking at Saki's work for sometime now--for several years in fact. Of his large body of work, two of his short stories in particular have had great appeal to us as potential film projects. The draw has not only been Saki's witty dialogue and his pointed climaxes, but also, and maybe especially, his underlying theme of Untamable Nature.
Yet we struggled with the screenplay. When we'd expand the plot to feature length, the power and punch of the short story seemed to get lost. Two things have happened to bring Saki's work back on the table and in the running for potentially becoming our next film project.
First we discovered a third short story that when woven together with the other two, will create a continuous tale that spans some 200 years and culminates at the dawn of Edwardian England. And second, we have come to the conclusion that this film can stand on its own no matter how long. We see it with the possibility of running approximately a half hour in length, but this could change depending upon how long the final script is.
Of course, financing is key. We'll keep you posted as things develop.
And as for the titles of the three chosen stories...these will remain under wraps for now.
