A friend of ours recently came across this fairly old children's book,
The Little Big Books: Animal Stories for Tiny Folk. Published back in 1928 by McLoughlin Brothers Inc., the small volume is targeted towards very young kids and contains a series of short stories on horses, donkeys, goats, dogs, cats, hedgehogs and even rats. And of course, chickens! The final tale entitled,
The Little White Hen, is short but sweet...though it doesn't quite end in the way we thought it would.

It actually felt like it might end with a reaction from the mother more similar to what Jack received in Jack in the Beanstalk when he brought home the "magic" beans.
